Holder Releases

This type of product is designed to hold a fire-rated door open indefinitely.  In emergencies, the holder will release and the closer will take over to close the door.  Fire-rated doors must be self-closing and self-latching to meet code.  A Holder Release unit allows the door to remain open but still meet fire code.

How It Works

The ”holder” portion of the unit is electrified.  Upon loss of signal, the holder will release.

The built-in door closer is contstantly trying to close the door, even when it is being held open.  When the holder releases, the closer can do it’s job and close the door.

 

Ordering

Dorma’s 1800 series is tricky to order, but only because there are so many options.  We’ve simplified the ordering process by presenting only the most commonly ordered options.

Step 1] Mounting

1816 – Mounts to PUSH side of door.  Uses standard closer arm.

1856 – Mounts to PULL side of door.  Uses track arm.

 

Step 2] Smoke Detector

”SD” models include a smoke detector built into the unit.  You may order the unit with or without SD.

 

Step 3] Voltage

Units without a detector need the voltage specified when ordering.

”SD” (smoke detector) models need no voltage specified.  These units have more advanced circuitry and can accept all standard voltages.

 

Step 4] Hold Open Position

”FS” units are Free Swing.  The door can be left open at any degree, but will still close should the alarm system sound.

Standard units are held open at a pre-set degree, from 20 to 180 degrees, set during installation.
